Statement: New Mexico Stream Access Decision Statement on behalf of HECHO
by Max Trujillo, Senior New Mexico Field Coordinator
On behalf of Hispanics Enjoying Camping Hunting and the Outdoors HECHO, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the New Mexico Wildlife Federation and the partnering organizations for staying the course in the battle to keep our streams in public domain. We extend our gratitude to Attorneys Gene Gallegos and Seth Cohen for influencing the high court to adhere to New Mexico’s Constitution. Similar battles have been waged in other states with similar results and it is good when justice prevails in favor of the masses and not just for the wealthy.
We must always remember that neither the air nor water nor fish or wildlife is owned by anyone but resources for all to benefit from. Mindful management and equitable sharing of these precious resources must remain the cornerstone of conservation if clean water and abundant wildlife are to remain a sustainable and renewable resource.
