HECHO Supports the Tribute to Officially Recognize Latino Conservation Week in the State of Colorado

HECHO supports the tribute announced today at the Colorado General Assembly by the Latino Caucus to officially recognize the third week of July as Latino Conservation Week in the state of Colorado.

“Hispanic and Latino communities of Colorado have a profound connection to the land, where they have hiked, hunted, fished, camped, and stewarded Colorado’s natural resources for generations,” said Camilla Simon, executive director of Hispanics Enjoying Camping, Hunting and the Outdoors. “Latino Conservation Week gives an opportunity to engage our community in various public events and recreational outdoor activities on public lands across the state of Colorado, to recognize their traditional conservation practices and honor the contributions of Latinos to conservation, advocacy and environmental justice.”

We applaud State Representative Elizabeth Velasco and other members of the Latino Caucus for championing this tribute that highlights and celebrates the values, traditions, roles, and contributions of the Hispanic community to the outdoors and conservation of natural resources in Colorado.
