Action Alert: Thank New Mexico’s Leaders for Holding Oil and Gas Companies Accountable
Communities across the west worked hard to demonstrate to our leaders the importance of a strong Bureau of Land Management (BLM) methane waste rule. But we never would have gotten anywhere without leaders and elected officials who recognized the importance of conservation policies such as this one, which will reduce the needless waste of America’s energy resources.
For that, we thank our nation’s leaders for listening to the many voices that supported this rule, including farmers, religious groups, business leaders, civil society groups, and outdoor conservation groups such as HECHO.
In recognition of these leaders, HECHO signed on to a multi-group letter published in The Hill thanking President Obama, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, and BLM Director Neil Kornze for finalizing the BLM methane rule.

HECHO also ran radio ads and online banners in leading publications in New Mexico thanking state and county officials for their leadership and support to pass this rule.
We are thrilled by this success and will continue to work hard to make sure that this rule is implemented so that we can see its many benefits come to fruition, including cutting the waste of natural gas and collecting tax revenue that could support education, roads and bridges, and conservation projects.
