Action Alert: Public Lands, Wildlife, and Tribes Left Behind?
Act Now to Secure Funding for Public Lands, Wildlife, and Tribes
A recent news report suggests that the Department of Interior and our public lands and wildlife may be left out of the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package and that there’s not nearly enough for Tribes.
That means:
No money to help reduce drought conditions and fire risks on the 245 million acres of public lands across the West managed by the Bureau of Land Management
No money for our National Parks and Wildlife Refuges that people are flocking to
No money for at-risk fish and wildlife through the Fish and Wildlife Service
No money for natural climate solutions on Interior lands
Not nearly enough for Tribal priorities (schools, public safety, road, water settlements, resilience, restoration)
Please call your senator to tell them it’s unacceptable to leave public lands, waters, wildlife and Tribes behind. Ask them to demand that Senator Sanders and Senator Schumer fix this problem by allocating at least $80 billion for the Department of Interior.
Tell your Senators:
“We need to prioritize investments in our public lands and waters that will create good-paying jobs, help address the climate crisis and secure our outdoor heritage for future generations. Please make sure that funding for the Department of Interior— our public lands and wildlife -- is included in the budget reconciliation package. It is unacceptable to leave public lands, waters, wildlife and Tribes behind.”
