Hosted and moderated by Camilla Simon, HECHO's Executive Director, we will be facilitating a conversation with the people leading the way for re-thinking energy, broadband, and the co-op model.
Event Description:
One of FDR’s New Deal Programs, the U.S. Rural Electrification Project, led to the establishment of America’s electric cooperatives. Today, these co-ops serve 42 million people across 2,500 counties, including 92% of persistent poverty counties.
Now, more than ever, co-ops need to meet member expectations to provide renewable energy, which may include buying out and exiting their contracts with fossil fuels-based wholesalers. Meanwhile, co-ops are key to deploying broadband service in rural areas with their existing infrastructure, ownership, and maintenance of 42% of all U.S. electric distribution lines. These opportunities spur new job creation, business opportunities, economic development, and complement the outdoor recreation and tourism economies.
Learn how one rural co-op has accomplished all this and is on target for 100% daytime solar energy by 2022 while providing broadband service to all their members.
This event will also be streamed onto our Facebook.
